U.S. Census Bureau: Minnesota Latino Population Surpasses 200,000 According to Census estimates, the Latino population in Minnesota reached 205,896 compared with 195,138 the year before. Minnesota now has 205,896 residents identified as Latinos, compared to 195,138 one year ago. National and state estimates by race, Hispanic origin, sex and age were released on May 1, 2008 by the Census Bureau. According to government figures, the nation’s Latino population increased 1.4 million to reach 45.5 million on July 1, 2007, or 15.1 percent of the estimated total U.S. population of 301.6 million. The Census Bureau indicates that Latinos/as exceeded 500,000 in 16 states. Latinos remained the largest minority group in the country, with blacks (single race or multiracial) second at 40.7 million in 2007.
