Since January 2007 the Chicano Latino Affairs Council has undergone a strategic revisioning of its mission and goals. During that time, CLAC has redefined its methodology toward gathering community input through the creation of a community engagement process. This community engagement process aims to genuinely capture the voice of the Latino community through seven objectives: 1. To directly engage Latino community members, their accomplishments and challenges 2. To understand the Latino community's perspective on root causes of socio-economic challenges and solutions 3. To educate the Latino community on state legislative processes, policies and budget programs that are directly relevant to Latino concerns 4. To actively seek local Latino community contributions and leadership in local government, employers, educators, faith-based leaders, and service providers 5. To identify individuals who may provide testimony in presenting the Latino perspective to the state government 6. To gathering and integrate direct qualitative research into CLAC analysis During the 2-year legislative biennium cycle, CLAC aims to conduct community engagement visits to the 11 primary Latino cluster communities in rural Minnesota as well as within the Twin Cities metro area.
